Interested in LGBT life in Jyväskylä?
You might have noticed that almost all of this site is in Finnish, but don't worry, this page isn't! We don't have everything in English but we've tried to include all the most important bits below, including how to contact us, what groups we run, where our parties are etc. Hope you find it useful!

You might have also noticed that Jyväskylä isn't exactly San Francisco or Brighton, but by Finnish standards it's still a pretty good place to be LGBT-wise. SETA Jyväskylä is the town's largest support and social group for LGBT people, or anyone connected with sexual or gender minorities. It's affiliated to the national SETA organisation based in Helsinki.

The "In English" Message Board
As well as this page, we also have a message board for people who want to speak in English.

Parties

SETA Jyväskylä holds parties (usually about once a month) at Ilokivi, a night club and cafeteria in the Student Union building of Jyväskylä University. They're usually on the first floor of Ilokivi, although occasionally it's in the upper part. Ilokivi's address is Keskussairaalantie 2, which you can find on a map here.

There's a professional DJ, a bar, lots of space to dance in but also lots of tables where you can sit and chat. The doors open at 10pm and the party ends at 3am. You have to be 18 or older to get in. Tickets cost 3 - 6 euros, depending on are you a member and do you arrive during the happy hour.

The music can vary a lot from one party to another because people request all kinds of things, but it usually includes lots of current pop & dance hits, and a couple of slow romantic numbers for couples to snog to! You can post your music-requests in the discussion forum.

Tea & Coffee at the Office
There's coffee and tea and good company in the office of SETA Jyväskylä every Thursday from 6.30 to 8pm. Everybody's welcome to come and chat about anything!

Our new address is Vapaudenkatu 4, in a building called "Kumppanuustalo".

If you have problems finding there and you have a mobile/cell phone with you, call the office directly on 014 3100 660 and ask for instructions.

You can ask for information or advice, confidentally and anonymously. Our Groups
We run a number of groups.

-Pinko student group
Pinko is intended for all students (including mature students) in Jyväskylä, and meets regularly at the office to sit and chat, play board games, eat food etc. Pinko members occasionally hold "Etko"s or pre-party parties just before the main SETA Jyväskylä events. The group has its own mailing list and message board, and although these are both in Finnish there are lots of people on them who speak English so feel free to join them and introduce yourself.

-Trans group
The Trans Group is for anyone with issues involving gender, including Transgender and Transsexual people, Transvestites and Crossdressers, and people close to them such as friends or relatives. It meets in the evening (from 8pm) before our parties at our office for tea, coffee, and discussion. The Trans Group has its own message board (it's mostly in Finnish but please feel free to post messages in English!).
